Whether it is a great leader or a nobody
or a little girl with the morning sun on her face...
hands lifted up are a primary symbol
they express our dependence
on the greater power -
be it life, be it chance, be it destiny,
be it the caring love of the spirit, source of all being,
be it the One we call God -
they express our wanting, trusting, hoping.
Every parent knows the child's pleading outstretched hands.
One question always remains:
Why would you give up?
